Training with Support Dogs UK, SheffieldPosted on 13/06/18
Best Behaviour K9 were recently invited to come along to Support Dogs UK head office in Sheffield to watch how they train their dogs.
Support Dogs UK, Sheffield is a national charity that is dedicated to increasing independence and quality of life for people with various medical conditions. Like Autism, disabilities and seizures. Providing, training and supporting specialist assistance dogs to achieve this.
They help with everyday tasks for people with physical disabilities. Give advance warning of seizures for people with epilepsy and provide safety and support for children with autism and their families.
Established in 1992, they are registered founder members of the Assistance Dogs UK governing body and Assistance Dogs International. Support Dogs receives no government funding and relies on donations and fundraising to continue their work transforming lives.
Which is why Best Behaviour K9 wanted to see how we can support them more. As we have been involved with the charity for years raising money through events, raffles, Balls etc but we wanted to do more!
We came up with the idea of offering training to our most advanced dogs that come to our training school. Our aim is to train the dogs in the same way Support Dogs train. Once the dogs are up to it, we can attend events and shows across Yorkshire. Helping to promote and showcase the skills of these dogs and how they can benefit people with medical conditions. Also Raising awareness of the charity.
With all the great work Support Dogs do, they struggle to get out to promote the charity, which is why we wanted to step in.
So on a bright sunny morning the whole team of Best Behaviour K9 went down to their head office in Sheffield. We watched as Lucy the trainer talked and demonstrated the whole process. From a fresh obedience dog/puppy to advancing their skills to be able to open doors, press button, post letters and pick up drops pens, keys, wallets etc and so much more!
While watching the training it was clear to see how impressive these dogs are and what an impact they would have on someone with medical conditions.
With that in mind, we are looking forward to working closer with the charity to help change lives. A huge thank you to Sophie the trainer and Cassey the Lab who were both amazing!
We have several event booked already across Sheffield, Worksop and Rotherham.
