Hi, I’m Hazel and I work on the admin team at BBK9. My dog training journey began in 2019 when I rescued a Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Amber and needed help managing her behaviour. She was a nervous young dog and displayed many unwanted behaviours, the most severe of which were reactivity to other dogs and separation anxiety. Like many owners, I struggled to overcome my own anxiety issues and found her behaviour overwhelming as I lacked the knowledge and experience to address these issues effectively. The one thing I did know was that I was committed to improving her behaviour.
I booked the Rogue course at BBK9 to get things rolling. I had also applied for a role at BBK9 in their admin team. I attended my first class after completing a trial shift at BBK9 earlier that day. I spent the day watching Claire give advice and support to struggling dog owners over the phone, then that evening I watched and listened as Neil gave me and the rest of my class a fascinating insight into canine behaviour and why dogs do the things they do. I knew straight away that this company was something I wanted to be a part of and didn’t hesitate in accepting the job offer that night.
A year on and Amber’s training is coming on in leaps and bounds. Something vital that I have learned is that dog training is a journey, not a destination. We have so much fun training together we have learnt how to communicate with each other in a way we both understand.
I love my job and enjoy being able to provide other dog owners with the guidance and help that they need. BBK9 has inspired me to further develop my knowledge and skills, and I have recently decided to start studying canine behaviour.
